About the Song

The title “North Wing” actually refers to the northern part of Terminal 1 at Narita International Airport (formerly New Tokyo International Airport).

From the lyrics, it seems there were international flights involved.
However, the “North Wing” mentioned in the song gives the impression of a jet heading north.

The lyrics convey:
“A person I once gave up on, but the love within me directs me towards you, on the North Wing jet that departs at night.”
“On this North Wing, I’ll overcome the painful yesterdays without you.”
“Oh, love is mysterious; with its mysterious power, you call to me.”

The imagery of seeing city lights from the window of a nighttime jet flight is truly evocative, making it a remarkable song.

Artist Trails

In 1981, Akina Nakamori passed a television audition program, “Star Tanjou!” (Star Birth!), and made her debut with the single “Slow Motion” in 1982.

She went on to achieve successive hits with songs like “Shojo A,” “Second Love,” “North Wing,” and “Kazari Janai no yo Namida wa.”

In 1985, she won the Japan Record Award for two consecutive years with “Mi Amore” and in 1986 with “DESIRE -Jounetsu-.”

Although she took a break from October 2010 due to health issues, she continued her music career at a controlled pace, appearing as a special guest at the 65th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen in 2014 and releasing a cover album, “Utahime 4 – My Eggs Benedict.”

As a fan, I hope she doesn’t overexert herself and occasionally blesses us with her mature songs.

What I love most about Akina is the passion I feel in her singing.
It truly feels like her soul is embedded in every song.

At times, that soulfulness seems so poignant and sad that it reaches out and touches the listener. I believe she channels the cries of her soul into her music.

She is truly an amazing singer and artist.
